I look at her face, calm like the water. She tries to smile but the pain on her face is still clearly visible. I go to her and sit beside. I try to initiate a conversation, she hesitates. This is the scene at a mental hospital in Delhi. After she is convinced that I am not trying to make fun of her she starts telling her story.
5 years back she moved to Delhi from a small village in Bihar. She lives in a paying guest house. She is suffering from Schizophrenia from past 1 year. Nobody who lives in the guest house behaves with her like a normal human being. Everybody keeps a distance from her like she is a ghost or something.
It is completely understood- In a country where we are still struggling to achieve equality between men and women at the ground level, hoping the society will treat a mentally ill woman as equal is surely an over expectation.
